I am exploring a new for me, but ancient painting media, encaustic painting.   This involves painting with hot wax mixed with damar resin and pigments.  This method was used to create the Fayum mummy portraits in Egypt around 100-300 AD.

This first painting, Purple and Gold Beach, is a 6″ x 6″ encaustic on cradled encausticbord. The mist and coastal light blended the beach, waves, clouds and cliffs into waxy color.
